Meet Leah

IMG_1091.jpg

Welcome!  I am Leah Clearwater, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado.  I am the owner of Clearwater Counseling and Wellness, a private practice located on the Western Slope of Colorado.  I graduated from Capella University with a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2018.  Prior to completing my degree, I worked for NAMI Colorado as a Program Coordinator bringing new programs, such as Ending the Silence, to Colorado, as well as coordinating trainings for the state, in an effort to increase support, education and awareness of the impact of mental health conditions on individuals, families and the community.  I started my career as a therapist in community mental health, where I worked in urban and rural mountain communities, seeing clients with a range of symptoms including depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar and personality disorders. I started my private practice in 2021, and in 2024 I began as a consultant with EMDR Center of the Rockies for EMDR trainings.

Currently I see clients from all over Colorado via telehealth with the use of a HIPAA Compliant Zoom platform.  I am an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist, helping clients address a variety of traumatic experiences.  I am a Certified CAMS Therapist, helping clients address self-harm and suicidal thoughts. I am a Certified Grief Educator, helping clients cope with grief and heal from a variety of losses.  I am also an EMDRIA Consultant-in-Training, working with other licensed professionals seeking support and consultation for EMDR with their clients.   In addition to my work in mental health, I have been a legal Guardian and Conservator for a family member for over 25 years and have extensive experience in caregiving and navigating the medical, financial and legal requirements of Conservatorships and Guardianships.

Outside of my work and passion as a therapist, I am a wife, momma of 2 and nana of 1.  I enjoy reading, landscape photography, camping, music, concerts, and being in nature as much as possible.

For Clients:

Adults I work with often find they are an expert in taking care of everyone around them but feel uncertain how to take care of themselves. They may be "people pleasers" and know in great detail what others may need and how to fix things, but struggle to know what they need, how they feel or how to address their own problems.  They may have had traumatic or adverse experiences that impact the way they react and cope in many situations. This often leads to feelings of anger, resentment, exhaustion and neglect of their own needs, with an increase in anxiety, depression, self-harming thoughts or grief taking over.

If this sounds familiar to you and you are finding yourself more depleted, unsupported and realizing its time for a change, but you're not sure where to begin, I can help support you in building healthy boundaries, identifying coping skills, healing trauma and improving relationships with those in your life, while finding the balance of your own personal well-being.

Therapy offers the opportunity for some much-needed focus on you; a place to be heard, understood and supported. I can help support you in your efforts to work towards finding the balance you desire, heal from past experiences and prioritizing yourself, while still honoring your commitments to others.

For Therapists:

Therapists I work with in Consultation have completed Basic EMDR Training through an EMDRIA approved program seeking EMDR Certification or have a basic need for support with EMDR with their clients.  I have EMDR experience in working with adults who experience trauma, complex trauma, sexual trauma, dissociation and grief.  I consult in EMDR Basic Trainings, and I can also provide support with the review of EMDR protocols, target sequencing, dissociation assessment, interweaves, floatbacks and more.

I look forward to meeting you!
